These advancements and changes have had an effect on the industries we’re coming into. With these changes, this generation is becoming creative, designing jobs that previously did not exist, and with the strides made by technology, being able to work from anywhere at any time. All these smaller changes will eventually lead to something big, thus leading us to the tipping point.
The theme of this year’s issue of Emerge is The Tipping Point. This idea refers to the occurrence of several small changes over a period of time, which will eventually result in a massive shift. By looking at the changes that are currently taking place, we are able to start the discussions of what we should expect within the near future. Thus, we will be able to curve the sense of uncertainty to some degree.
We’ve seen traditional activities enter the online space, in order to reach larger demographics and create larger conversations. We are constantly finding new ways to utilize the media to adapt to these changes as individuals and keep up with the industries around us. Although we can’t be sure of what the future may hold on the other side of the tipping point, we can only be ready to welcome change and adapt to what’s yet to come.

One of the largest areas of growth we’ve seen in the media realm is the increase of social media influencers. Social media has become much more than just a platform to communicate with friends. Social media has given those with the voice and strategy to inspire, entertain and even help others.
With internet fame comes hardships, especially if you choose this as a career path. The problem is, anyone can go viral overnight by doing something ridiculous. Content surrounding alcohol, nudity, wealth, and pranking seem to take the forefront of social media today.
By sitting down with four Canadian influencers that create a diverse range of clean content, we were able to explore how they ride the waves of maintaining a positive impact on the internet. Our documentary dives into topics concerning the struggle to stay popular, the offline and online balance, and the obstacles creators face that are usually only shown behind the screens.

Emerge Entertainment Television (EETV) has a mission: provide entertaining content that engages and educates university students. The overall EMERGE 2020 theme of The Tipping Point is fitting because EETV producers want to prepare you, our viewers, for the future by showcasing the changes happening in the world while also sharing ways in which you can help shift its direction.
Created by Gary Levy, executive producer, and producer Ben Formosa, each episode of EETV, “Technology Today & Tomorrow “and “The Grind after Graduation” will do a deep dive into new, interesting and inspiring concepts that you need to know. EETV will explore the worlds of hacking and cyber-security and present tips for would-be freelance writers, showing viewers how you can succeed in the literary world right now—by sharing your own unique story with the universe. On the Edge is a technology-driven podcast mixing casual discussion and expert interviews brought to you by Emerge Talk. Hosted by Stephen Viti, the podcast will explore a new and emerging technology on each of its three episodes.
Self-driving cars, smart homes and deep fakes are the topics we aim to explore with On the Edge. These technologies are proving to be more and more relevant in our society today. Becoming more and more advanced as research continues. We look at why this is exciting and why this is scary. How the future projects endless possibilities and whether our anxieties are warranted.

For countless past years, humanity has harvested a comfort in normal routine jobs. Many workers have grown accustom to a traditional 9-5 schedule and have accepted general work culture for what it is – which in many cases, is quite tedious and unfulfilling. Whether it be because of the benefits, a lack of motivation to do better or simply because the bills aren’t going to pay themselves, many workers settle for what they have and not necessarily what they want.
Today, with the emergence of social networking services, the uprising Generation Z has no problem going against all norms, diving head-first into what we refer to as unconventional careers. In Hustle & Flows, hosts Janiece Campbell and Kristopher Phillips showcase young adults willing to take huge risks and become successful by their own means. All guests are young entrepreneurs under the age of 25 that have not only garnered a decent following on social media but are also taking advantage of online platforms to perpetuate their talents.
