EMAs: Modest fashion spotted on the red carpet
Modest Fashion is often mistaken to be only for women who wear the hijab. This is a common misconception because modest fashion can be found everywhere and is for everyone. Simply pairing a baggy sweatshirt with a pair of jeans can be considered modest. The EMERGE Media Awards is a great event where individuals can dress for success and show off their unique style. Here are some looks that I found to be modestly chic and trendy:
Outfit 1: Stunning olive-green jumpsuit
When it comes to fashion, there is beauty in simplicity. Attendee, Paula, rocked the red carpet in this effortless olive green jumpsuit. Jumpsuits are the perfect garment to throw on when attending events like this. The long sleeves and tailored pant complement this piece by modestly covering the body. It also draws attention with its sash that can be wrapped in different ways. Here Paula tied it around the waist and made a bow at the side of her hip, this added detail completed her whole look.
How do you dress for success?
“It’s all about feeling comfortable, nothing too tight, nothing too big. From head to toe just feel confident because your confidence will show.”
– Paula
Outfit 2: Cinderella’s Alter Ego
This edgy outfit was serving nothing but ‘90s vibes. The outfit was styled to perfection with an oversized leather jacket, block-heel boots, and a bright red skirt. Alaina is definitely Cinderella’s alter ego because this outfit was thrifted and borrowed, “this leather jacket was thrifted with my amazing roommate, and this skirt was my mom’s, it was her graduation skirt so I try to wear it whenever I can and red is such a big trend right now, I love it.” With a mixture of edge and femininity, this look is modest yet trendy. The vintage leather jacket covers the body midway and the skirt is the perfect length to cover the legs while adding that pop of colour for spring.
Outfit 3: Wide-legged Jumpsuit
Who doesn’t like thrifting? This elegant jumpsuit accented with lace was under $10. Attendee, Chelsea, brightened up her outfit by pairing it with a red lip and cross-body bag. The jumpsuit’s wide-legged bottoms are ideal for modest fashionistas. These types of bottoms are flowy and not form fitting on the body. Chelsea’s outfit can be dressed up or down and paired with any jacket because jumpsuits are versatile. An ensemble like this instantly becomes modest once a jacket is involved.
How do you dress for success?
“Less is more. A piece of advice I’ve been given before was you should always take one thing off before you leave the house, whether it’s an accessory or some of your makeup.”
– Chelsea
