EMAs: Best Dressed List

Each year, the Emerge Media Awards brings together media studies students and faculty members from across the province to celebrate their achievements at post-secondary level.

The award show often requires those in attendance to dress their best as it often speaks to their professionalism and personal style.

This year, the EMAs red carpet welcomed its most smashing guests yet.

From vibrant suits to dresses filled with fresh floral prints, we made sure to capture the attendees in their stylish attire. Here are few looks that made the Emerge fashion team’s best dressed list.

KILLING IT IN BLACK

One shoulder jumpsuitBlack may be simple, but attendee, Angelica, killed it in this one-shoulder jumpsuit ensemble at the EMAs. In an attempt to not be covered up, she said this outfit was the perfect take on a jumpsuit. “It still warms me up, but I’m showing a little sex appeal while being a little bit conservative,” Angelica said.  With her brown locks slightly tucked behind her ear, she opted for accessories like oversized studs and a gold watch. She also topped her look off with a pair of peach pointed-toe mules from The Bay.

ELECTRIC BLUE

When it comes to suits, most men choose to play it safe. However, attendee, Sannon, decided to do things differently by stepping out to the EMAs in this polished electric blue suit from Strauss. Based on the uncertain weather, Sannon said his motive for wearing this vibrant suit was to lighten the mood and lighten up wherever he goes.

DAZZLING FLORAL

Black and gold dress

University of Windsor student and EMA attendee, Cassandra, dazzled in this whimsical black dress with gold floral detailing. She said her look was inspired by the beautiful spring temperatures she was experiencing in Windsor. “‘When I went shopping for it, it was beautiful out. I was like ‘okay, might as well go for something more florally, fun, and out there.’” Cassandra added some glitz and glamour to her outfit by wearing a gold princess cut set that consisted of dangling squared earrings with the matching necklace. Cassandra’s pointed-toe strappy heels tied her entire look together causing her to truly stand out.

DAPPER IN PLAID

Attendee, Gabriel, looked dapper on the red carpet of the EMAs as he rocked a plaid suit jacket from Zara with a white button-up underneath paired with black pants and polished Chelsea booties with buckle detailing. Gabriel’s on-trend outfit is not the only thing that secured him a spot on our best dressed list, his personality and various poses did!

STEPHANIE MATTEIS MAKES A STATEMENT

Patterned dress

Award-winning CBC news journalist and University of Guelph-Humber professor, Stephanie Matteis, made a statement at the EMAs as she wore a stunning sheath silhouette dress by Byron Lars, her favourite designer, who collaborates with Anthropologie to create structured and sultry garments.

The torso of Matteis’ red dress was athletic-inspired as it consisted of a zipper, mesh across the chest and arm area. The rest of the dress accentuated her curves and had colourful patterns. Matteis’ jaw-dropping dress was accompanied with a pair of black Louboutin heels, deep blue tote from Sienna, Italy, and blue diamond encrusted earrings.
